The Versailles Palace (Château de Versailles) is one of the most beautiful achievements of 18th-century French Architecture. The site began as Louis XIII’s hunting lodge before his son Louis XIV transformed and expanded it, moving the court and government of France to Versailles in 1682. The famous queen Marie-Antoinette also lived in Versailles.

The Versailles Palace was also the place where the Treaty of Versailles, one of the peace treaties that ended World War I, was signed.
