Four-Day Trip to WWI Battlefields

Four-day trip to the WWI battlefields of Northern France and Western Belgium (Flanders Fields) with home stays, followed by a celebration in Brussels. The trip is organized by AFS Belgium Flanders, AFS Belgium French, AFS France and the European Federation for Intercultural Learning. The trip starts in Paris on the morning of Sunday, November 9 and ends in Brussels, Belgium on Wednesday, November 12. The program includes:

  • A visit to the cemetery of Bony and a guided tour discovering the hills of Artois around the city of Arras (November 9)
  • A visit to the internationally renowned Flanders Fields Museum, the war cemetery of Tyne Cot, the Ypres salient, and the Menin Gate with its moving Last Post ceremony in the city of peace of Ypres (November 10)
  • An invitation as guests of honor to the Belgium Party, a large volunteer celebration (November 10)
  • An unconventional journey through the city of Brussels, revealing some well-hidden secrets (November 11)
  • A gala “dinner in the dark” to benefit AFS Egypt and AFS Tunisia (November 11)
  • A visit to the European Parliament and the Parlamentarium (morning of November 12)
